Who Was Fernand Seguin?

Fernand Seguin worked at Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital from 1947 to 1952, during the period when it was known as Saint-Jean-de-Dieu Hospital. He founded the department of biochemical research in order to pursue studies in that area. He was one of the first people to support the hypothesis that certain mental illnesses have a biological cause. At that time, his ideas encountered numerous obstacles, and it was only later that the significance of his research and then-revolutionary ideas was recognized. Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital will always remember this man of great conviction.

The Fernand-Seguin Research Centre strives to act like the man it is named after: guided by passion and excellence, rigorous but open-minded in its approach and entirely devoted to a better understanding of mental illness and the development of better treatments.
