Areas of expertise

Sex offenders - Violent behavior - Virtual reality - Video-oculography - Psychophysiology - Ergonomics

Patrice Renaud has developed a protocol for assessing deviant preferences in sexual offenders using virtual immersion. To achieve this goal, the team has developed and clinically validated 3D sexual stimuli. These findings and developments have resulted in potential commercial product in the area of mental health, particularly in forensic psychiatry. He created the Cyberpsychology Lab at the University of Quebec in Outaouais, in collaboration with his colleague Stephane Bouchard. This is an experimental and developmental laboratory that offers innovative technological and methodological possibilities in the field of mental health and ergonomic cognition. He is director of the laboratory Applications of virtual reality in forensic psychiatry at the Institut Philippe-Pinel.

These two patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office relate to the combined use of immersive environments and tracking technologies of oculomotor behavior (eye-tracking) in order to monitor visual attention and behavior modification in clinical practice or during training. They also relate to the use of the same device for modulating the feedback afforded by virtual immersion in neurofeedback applications. These patents have been made thanks to a grant from the Ministère de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie du Québec.
